I just got my very first blogging award from mommysaidaswearword and I’m so excited! These little blogging awards float around the internet sort of like chain letters, but there’s no creepy pyramid scheme and they help share the blogging love. So I’m down with it. And hey, I feel all official now, so that’s awesome. Go me!
EDIT: I also just got another blog award from susanwritesprecise. Oh my goodness, I’m feeling the love people! So consider this my post for both of these awards (the requirements are the same for each).
To get the award I have to share seven secrets about myself and then pass on the award to fifteen bloggers I love. So here goes!
1. Everything in my house has a place where it belongs and I get irritated/twitchy if things get put in the wrong place. And by “place” I don’t mean a room or general area, I mean an exact spot where each item belongs. When David or the maid puts things back in the wrong place I absolutely must move it back to where it belongs. I know, my life is so hard.
2. I’ve read every Dan Brown book and I kind of hate myself for it. They’re terribly written, incredibly predictable and not even that entertaining. And yet I keep reading them. Every. single. one. What’s wrong with me? I have no explanation. I plead pure escapism. Sometimes you need it. (Just to be clear, I usually read actual literature. Right now I’m reading through all the Pulitzers, along with other books that I read for fun. Please don’t judge me.)
3. I love to peel labels off things. Except when it’s the wrong kind of label. You know what I mean – when it doesn’t come off cleanly and you get that white under-label stuff stuck to your book or whatever. Why do they do that? I’m assuming the wrong kind of label is cheaper, but honestly, I’m willing to pay more to get the right kind of label.
4. I learned how to drive on a stick shift car. My dad took me to a parking lot by our house and made me drive uphill. I couldn’t get it in first and kept stalling, but he made me keep trying and I was freaking out. Thanks dad. Of course, I finally got it and loved it. I drive an automatic now, but I still often find myself with my hand on the gear shift while I’m driving.
5. I compulsively pick at the skin around my nails. It’s a really, really disgusting habit but I just can’t stop. It just feels so incredibly satisfying to get a good chunk of dead skin and peel it off. Wow, that sounds super gross when it’s put down in writing. Sorry folks.
6. I have essentially eaten the same thing for breakfast for decades: peanut butter toast. Sometimes I’ll change it up and have some kind of cereal every morning for a few months. But I always come back to my toast. I’m starting to sound a little bit OCD here…
7. I gave myself two tattoos when I was fourteen. My friend was diabetic so we used some of her syringes and india ink and gave ourselves tattoos. For whatever reason, I thought that it would just be under the first layer or so of skin and it wouldn’t last forever. I was fourteen and obviously an idiot. They’re still here. I’ve gotten two more professionally done and I’m hoping to get another one soon. The professional ones are, shockingly, much better.
So that’s me in a nutshell! And here are the bloggers that I’m passing the award on to:
Erstwhile Dancefloor Revolution
Yay! Enjoy these awesome blogs! (Yes, I realize this isn’t 15. Give me a break. I’m going for quality, not quantity here.)

I feel the love now, too! Thanks so much for including my blog. Really enjoyed your “7 Things About Me” — promise not to steal too many of your “topics”, but they covered so much good ground!
Glad to hear I’m not crazy! Or at least, if I am crazy, I’m not alone
Had to include you on MY list, but I won’t make you share seven MORE secrets!
Congrats!
Thanks!!
Congrats on your awards, they are much deserved! I have enjoyed reading your blog since I found you Freshly Pressed, what feels like many moons ago now! Thanks for the shout-out to my blog in your 15. And I now have pressure anxiety regarding the matter of passing it along, and, ugh, listing 7 secrets ?! Who decided that was a good idea anyway :-S Love the tatto story…haha…seriously? You leave me hanging with so much curiosity as to what your tattos are? Another post perhaps?
Thanks! I know – figuring out seven “secrets” to tell was a little stressful. Isn’t it ridiculous the things we did when we were younger? I think about that and look at Adeline and wonder… what is she going to get herself into?? Oh lord… I will definitely do a post on the tattoos
Thanks so much! I’m flattered!!! I received a Versatile Blogger Award a few weeks ago, but now that I’ve gotten a 2nd one.. and the 7 things one, I guess I’d better get on my list. 15 is a LOT, isn’t it! Will do my best to pass on the love.
I can’t believe you tattooed yourself! Didn’t it hurt like hell? Mine would probably be one little dot. After the initial stab, I’d quit, I just know it. What did you tattoo on yourself?
Oh god, the tattoos are horrible. I’m seriously considering doing a post about it so I can share pics with you all. It’s a moon and a heart. Shoot me now.
Aww, thanks!
Also. I do the skin picking thing!! It’s gross as hell but I can’t stop. I’m a bit worried I’ve permanently damaged one finger… The skin just isn’t growing back. Yikes! Is there no hope for us?
I know! I do it mostly on my thumbs and the skin there is slightly pink all the time, even if I’m going through a good period where I’m not actively picking. Oooooops…
Thank you for doin this! I am right there with you on #5. I’ve done this since I was a kid, I notice it gets worse when I’m really stressed. Anyway. supa cool–I’ll try the sharing and sending thing myself.
Oh yes, it’s absolutely a stress thing! I sort of do it all the time, but when I’m stressed? Watch out!
As a newbie blogger, I’m truly honor to be part of your list! I got head shivers (you know, the kind that makes your head tighten with excitement) when I read your post and found my blog mentioned. I will do my part to honor those others whose work has added to my blogging life. ASAP!
I too have a thing for putting things exactly where they belong – except I can’t seem to keep up with my own neurosis and end up ditching the effort until that drives me crazy enough to kick start the neurotic habit all over again. It’s a vicious cycle that could drive any sane person to lose her mind!
My neurosis has definitely improved since having Adeline. I’ve learned to let go a lot more and just keep things relatively in the right places. I think she’s helped me see that there are more important things
Wow, I feel like I just got asked to go to the mall with the popular girls. Thank you. I could definitely relate to your #4, only my dad took me on the f’in highway in a Spider Fiat and wouldn’t help me get it into 3rd gear! The tattoo’s – wow, that’s not even something that I would do. You were an idiot! HAHAH. The closest I got was piercing one ear 6 times, by myself, with a sharp safety pin, while babysitting. Idiot. Yes. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for including me (and my little blog!) on your list! I’m so flattered and excited about my first award ;o)
Keep up the great blogging – and I’m totally with you on #3?? Why do they make labels that don’t peel off??? Come on people!
I hope you believe in better late than never! In November 2011 I switched jobs and have only recently been able to keep up with blogging again. So I wanted to stop by and say Thank you and Sorry! and Thank you again. I’m really flattered!
