Parenting involves a lot of conversations that you never would have imagined yourself having. Here are just a few from our recent trip to Miami:
(After putting Adeline to bed in the upstairs bedroom of our bungalow)
David: do you think it’s safe to pee upstairs tonight?
Me: safe?
David: yeah, I mean, is it going to wake her up?
Me: ooooh, yeah, that might be pretty risky….

(while changing her diaper when she finally pooped after an unusually long time)
Me: Whoa, it’s like… a real turd.
David: You mean like a real human’s poo?
Me: Yeah!
David: It’s not usually like that?
Me: No… but maybe this one just hasn’t had time to get squished yet…

And speaking of changing diapers… I have to admit that I sort of love it lately. Not because I enjoy dealing with poop or wrangling her to keep her still long enough to get a new diaper on. No, I like it because she looks like a baby when I change her diaper.
Lately she’s such a big girl. She’s running around and climbing and she’s getting tall and she just doesn’t really seem like a baby at all anymore. And I miss that.
But when I get her on the changing table, it’s the one time that she still sort of seems like a baby. I love it!

I just learned not to read blogs while having lunch or any food for that matter, unless I know the content of the blog. Potato salad just doesn’t taste the same with images of poops dancing on the brain.
I might need a personal disclaimer in the future. Just in case…lol
Oh no! Sorry about that. I would just assume that any post on a mommy blog could involve poop – that is, unfortunately, something I deal with a lot. Living the life over here
Amen, Sister! Did you ever imagine you’d be so intimately acquainted with another human’s bodily secretions? And yay for the big girl poop!
Nice post. I thought it was very sweet.
…or when you say, in a group of adults, “look, there goes a horsey!”, with NO children present. I said that to Scott once, outside of a restaurant on a date night.
Oh my god, I know! I was just telling David how I find myself using my baby voice with adults these days. I can’t stop myself. And then I feel like such an idiot!
She’s too cute! Enjoy the baby stage, it goes by soooo fast!
