** A collection of articles and other fun stuff from around the web. Mostly dealing with babies, parenting, moms, etc. But not always. **
The Five Best Toys of All Time (I love this! Hint, toy #1 on the list is Stick. Fantastic.)
Ten is the New Two (from Free Range Kids – on why treating kids like babies isn’t good for kids)
British Study: Half Of All Pregnant Women Could Give Birth At Home Safely (nice to see a study on this instead of just fear-mongering)
The Real Reasons Kids Shouldn’t Drink Apple Juice (We’re a juice-free household, and now I feel even better about that decision)
Don’t Call Me a Mom: Why It’s Time for Women to Drop That Identity (I’ve certainly tried to maintain my independent interests and not let being a mother define everything about who I am. This is an interesting article about that balance – although she might be a little too quick to disclaim being a mother.)
I found the mom blog to be almost condescending. I get the point I am woman hear me roar. But it almost felt like she was the one putting labels on what mothers are suppose to be. I am a bright woman who has chosen to be a mother. A role that I will now have for the rest of my life. Careers change. Motherhood does not. I also never walk out of my house frumpy! I loved the ten is the new two article. It’s so true. I have an 11 and almost 10 year old. I realized a couple years ago that I was limiting them in life by my constant hovering. Responsibility is learned. We have to allow children to make mistakes. I love your weekly web articles! Thanks for scouring the web!
I totally agree with your take on that article: I understand that being a mom can be a system shock, but that doesn’t mean that you have to totally deny your motherhood in order to maintain a sense of self. You’re a mother now. Deal with it!
I really enjoy the blog Free Range Kids – I think it’s a great philosophy to let your children be independent. But I’m also sure that as Adeline gets older I’ll have plenty of struggles with letting her go. She’s my little baby, you know?!
LOVE the toy article. Brilliant! We have played with every single one of those things today – it would have been an unusual day if we had not. Great writer, thanks for introducing me to the site x
