First, a note. Yesterday I guest blogged over at the brand new Expressing Motherhood blog. Expressing Motherhood is an ongoing stage show, started in 2008, featuring mothers telling their stories. I first heard about Expressing Motherhood at BlogHer’12 and connected with them again on Twitter. I’m so excited that I got to be part of their new blog as they get it up and running. Please read my post — about how I find time to be creative — and share your thoughts as well!

Now, for a confession. I can.not. function without lists. This is something I generally know about myself, but every now and then I get a little cocky. I think, hey, I’m a smart girl, I don’t need a list. I can remember everything I need to do/bring/whatever. I’ve got this.

People, I do not got this. My latest attempt to go sans list: deciding that I didn’t need a list when I packed for our trip up to Wisconsin this weekend. I managed my stuff ok. Adeline’s stuff? Not so much. I forgot various snacks, her sippy cups, her tylenol (she’s got some fierce teething going on), and sundry other items. The most ridiculous part about all this? I have a list of stuff I need for Addie when we travel. I use it every time and it’s sitting in a drawer in her room. All I needed to do was take it out and use it. But I got too sure of myself.

Never again friends. I’m fully committed to the list at this point.

I use lists for everything. I have my to-do list, of course. But I also keep a long-term projects list. A grocery list. A Target list. A blog to-do list. A photography to-do list. My 30 Before 30 list. And many, many more. In fact, I’ve at times attempted a meta, list of lists. But that usually falls apart. There are just too many lists to keep track of.

You can understand, I suppose, why I might want to escape the lists at some point. But now I know the truth – I simply must have them. My name is Sara and I’m a list-a-holic.

Who’s with me??
