About

Welcome to my blog – I’m so happy you’re here! As the tagline reads, this blog is about the joys and struggles of life with a toddler. What does that mean, you ask? It means that I will be brutally honest about the things that make parenting hell at times. And it also means that I will celebrate the moments that make all that hell worth it. My commitment to you is to always tell the truth: whether it’s painful or funny or sad or awesome or uncomfortable. This blog is a community, so please jump in with comments – share your stories, tell me what you think, get involved!

I also focus at times on mindfulness, healthy living, book reviews, writing, and photography. Now, let me tell you a little about myself:

I’m a former lawyer turned stay-at-home mom turned writer turned… well, I’m not really sure what’s next. In the last two years I’ve gotten married, had a baby, quit my job, moved across the country, and, just recently, moved back across the country. It’s been a wild ride and something tells me we’re just getting started!

I support healthy pregnancy, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, and gentle parenting.  For all that, though, I’m not quite crunchy enough to fit in with the granola moms (“No, actually I’m not planning on home schooling…  And yes, she does have some plastic toys.  Some of them even have lights and music.  Ooops.”), but I’m a little too crunchy for the yuppie moms (and I don’t particularly want to be a yuppie mom anyways).  I’m trying to do the best I can and find a little niche of my own.

I’m a city girl at heart and I’m so happy to be back in Chicago. I love photography and I’ve discovered a deep passion for writing over the last few years. Check out my Photography page for some examples of my work and my Portfolio page for my best posts and publications. I also enjoy attempting to cuddle with my cats and listening to sad indie music.

Adeline is a wonderful, high-spirited, active little girl.  She’s almost two and although we’re getting some tastes of the terribles, we’re also getting to see the amazing person she’s becoming.  I’m a little baby crazy right now, but who knows when we’ll find time for another one. Hopefully soon!

  1. “attempts to cuddle with her cats”… made me laugh :)

  2. Hope you like your new life. I get to Denver from time to time, Highlands Ranch actually. It seems like a good place to raise a family and be a cloth-diaper mom.

  3. I like your blog (even though I’m not technically a mom–I’m a stepmom, but the children are much older!) :)

  4. I’m glad to find someone making a similar journey as myself – lawyer moms who give up the glory to be at home. It seems like we’re few and far between. I’m looking forward to reading your posts.

  5. This is a very pretty and well organized blog page! I love that you do cloth diapers! Thanks for connecting today!

  6. Love your blog. Please let me know if you find that niche you’re looking for (and whether there is room for another big city corporate lawyer turned ugg wearing SAHM who is neither crunchy nor yuppie but happy with something in the middle)

  7. Wasn’t sure where to leave this comment/message. Recently I went to the dollar store and they had a audiobook titled “To Hell With All That-Loving and Loathing Our Inner Housewife”. Being a new mommy and deciding to go back to work, I decided that it might interest you! I haven’t gotten through all of it yet, but I like what I’ve heard so far! :) Here is a link… http://www.amazon.com/Hell-All-That-Loathing-Housewife/dp/0316066273/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1328483595&sr=1-1

  8. I can relate to a lot of your about me section. I have been struggling to write my own because, I am in between. Used to wear miniskirts 24/7, now yoga pants…I am adjusting. I will be following your blog from now on ! Thank you for sharing ! And good luck for the exam !

  9. Definitely one of the most beautiful babies I’ve ever seen!

  10. A very expressive blog, well done :)

  11. I’m a fellow lawyer/writer/cloth-diapering toddler mama, and I was excited to find your blog just now. I sometimes wish I could stay home with my little bean, but then other times I think I’d go nutty because I love that every day at work is different (which is perhaps not as true of “biglaw”– love that term, btw! — as of crimelaw, which is my ball o’ wax). Anyway, I’m glad to’ve found you: I will follow and keep up with your adventures.

  12. I have been married for 20 years and my favorite part of the day is still when my husband comes home from work!

Tell me what you think!
